Walkability Audit — Taimoor Nagar & New Friends Colony

Context

Part of the semester’s transport improvement plan for Taimoor Nagar and New Friends Colony. The point was not to borrow a walkability score but to build one that fitted the place, and then to test it against the other transport surveys run the same semester.

Role

Planning studio — third semester, with Trisha and Samreen

Group studio with Trisha and Samreen: the literature study, the reconnaissance and delineation of the study area, the street-by-street survey, the scoring and the analysis.

Process

The factors were grouped into six sections — adequacy of infrastructure, quality of infrastructure, crossings and intersections, driver behaviour and safety, comfort and aesthetics, and behaviour of people and vendors. Each street was scored factor by factor, the sections summed to a total out of sixty and converted to ten, and the final table graded from red to green so the pattern reads at a glance: comfort and crossings fail almost everywhere, and the villages score lowest of all.
